Meet the 29th Judicial Circuit Court – Family Division (Juvenile Office)

 The Juvenile Office monitors and supervises youth under the age of 17 who have been adjudicated responsible for committing a crime in Gratiot County.  We provide a variety of services to youth and families based on the needs of the youth that we are currently serving.

 The Mission of the Juvenile Office is to protect the community by holding juveniles accountable for breaking the law, assisting in the coordination of community-based services aimed at reforming offenders and striving to ensure that the rights of victims are upheld.

 1.  Probation Levels

 Consent – Informal Probation

 Level 1 – General Probation (At least one meeting per month with probation officer)

 Level 2 – Intensive Probation (At least one meeting per week with probation officer or court staff)

 Level 3 – Pre-SHO-CAP (Numerous meetings per week with probation officer or court                   staff)

 

Level 4 – SHO-CAP (Serious Habitual Offender – Comprehensive Action Program numerous meeting per week with probation officer or court staff, immediate hearings and immediate consequences for actions.)

2.  Counseling

 Counseling through our office is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual youth and their families.

 3.  Substance Abuse Counseling

 Substance Abuse Counseling is tailored to meet the needs of the individual.  There are several options in the community.  Recently a new educational program has been developed in Gratiot County through the Substance Abuse Coalition called CHOICES.  This is an evidenced based program developed for youth with a substance abuse problem that live in Gratiot County.  Youth referred to this program do not have to be involved with the Juvenile Office.  Youth ages 12-17 can be referred to the program from a variety of agencies or individuals.  Additionally, there are substance abuse services available through Addictions Solutions in Alma.  The Juvenile Office provides other services on an as needed basis. 

 4.  Community Service

 Developed to provide quality community service opportunities for youth on probation with our office in order to teach youth the importance of giving back to the community.

 5.  Hours and Contact Information

 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4: 30 p.m.  Open from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch (staff permitting).  Juvenile staff on call for emergency situations twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.  On call worker may be contacted for emergency situations through the counties Central Dispatch Center (989) 875-7505.
